OK so the best way to verify roms using zsnes.

Bad rom mens that the games has been altered (hacked) some way. ZSNES figures this one out by comparing the CRC of the ROM image to its own database. SMC is merely a file extension. It just happens to be widely used in SNES ROM images. There are other extensions as well, such as SFC and FIG, among ...
