There are no graphics filters IIRC while using 8-bit mode (the no-transparency mode). This won't change anytime soon. It is simply not worth the effort to keep 8-bit mode in the Windows port, nor it will happen. Explaining how to do this will fall on deaf ears, because it's not a simple change by a...

You can only disable that with the DOS port. There's no other alternative, sorry. You can probably use DOSBOX if need be to use that port. This behavior won't change anytime soon, sorry.
