is there an easier way to resolve the issue? if not i will just try to find a save state elsewhere.

yes, it has an auto-update feature. is there anything i can do to fix it? or should i just buck up and start CT over?

what irregularities should i be looking for? other forums have suggested that i run 'zsnes -ad alsa' (i'm a noob) but this does not resolve the issue. should i also try a clean install of zsnes??

yes; ive tried several times to load the save state restarting ZSNES. i have not restarted the system -- will try that now.
