Re: ZSNES is not dead - Still in development
Here's the thing: It may be a fairly long lived project, but it is in no way all that accurate. Its timing model only barely works, and only because the original hardware was already fairly asynchronous. Even Snes9x has long since surpassed it in accuracy and stability. It's also fast enough to run ...

Re: When loaded a save state then immediately restarted...
Yes, save states include the SRAM. This is necessary for many games, including special chip titles which use the SRAM as execution space for their special chips.

Nope, looks like you get bupkiss for a ZSNESW frontend, because I didn't bookmark it, and I can't find it. I can only find myself mentioning it last year. Maybe it was really a false memory?

Re: The ZSNES GUI
Two things I know off-hand, that you may find when searching this forum, or not, depending on how well the search works: 1) Prior to becoming Higan, BSNES had an April Fools version called BZSNES, which had a fork of its Qt UI designed to mimic ZSNES, and also had some of its emulation accuracy turn...

Re: Option for Changing the Color Depth (Bit Depth) in ZSNES
The emulator renders at 16bpp because that was the closest to the native video mode it originally supported. I think it also supports 15bpp, but I can't be too sure. I don't see why it matters all that much.

And most modern video cards probably don't even support hardware rendering at 15 or 16bpp color depths. Modern Windows won't even let you reduce the desktop color depth directly.

Google the character, you'll find hits for fake YouTube advice posts for Apple users, which would show up in searches for reviews or such.
There's also a lovely "Get off my board, Macfags" post on 4chan.

Re: stupidity in unicode handling
They didn't bother to examine the San Francisco system font to identify why it happens with that particular font's ligatures, and not with any other font, or in other apps that either use different fonts, or use their own FreeType based text rendering.

Re: Cyrylic support please
Characters outside the range of 32-127 are not strictly ASCII. Unlike 0-31 and 128-255, 32-127 do not change significantly between code pages.
Unicode would be a preferred option, but is, again, highly unlikely to be supported in a custom GUI that hasn't been updated in over a decade.

Re: Cyrylic support please
Perhaps he is thinking of ANSI, which is very much language dependent. And ZSNES only has an ASCII font, not an ANSI font. Even if it supported Unicode paths, it would need a full Unicode font to display the characters in the dialogs.

Re: Problems with save state
Suggestion for Ubuntu: Grant g+w and chgrp disk to the storage volume where you keep your saves, if it's outside your home directory, and add yourself to the disk group. You'll need to log out and back in for that last part to take effect.

Oh! It was the Steam Big Picture pause screen, not the emulator! Oops. Feel free to share that, I can't think of the exact steps off hand, but I could probably try to hit up a search engine, now that you've mentioned what to search for.

Try the GUI keybinds dialog, it allows you to set (or unset) keys or joypad buttons to various GUI actions, including opening the GUI from the game.

Someone also made a RetroArch frontend out of ZSNESW, but they didn't update the display interface to anything newer than DirectDraw, so it has the same problem.

Re: play games smooth as possible
ZSNESW still uses DirectDraw, which is no longer hardware accelerated as of Windows 10. So that "FAST" 320x240 surface is being software scaled to 640x480 or larger before it's being displayed on the desktop of any modern system. Not exactly the fastest thing you can do. If you want smooth...

Just like they put all the SNES ROMs on the Wii Virtual Console, using Nintendo's own emulator... Oh wait.
