ZSNES board

Hi, When I try to load Star Ocean, I get a black screen in ZSNES (1.40) and nothing else. I do have the graphics pack in the correct subdirectory to where the rom is located, and it still doens't work. I swear that it worked in an earlier version of ZSNES, but doens't work now. I'm tryinig to set my savestate directory a different one than my rom directory. In the Zsnes options I put "\SStates" as the directory for my savestates, however they are still getting saved to the same directory as my roms. How can I get it to behave properly?
