Star Ocean sound problem

Post by Grahf »

Is it just me or are there MAJOR sound issues in Star Ocean?

- Sometimes there is no background music for a given location even though there should be; all other sound fx continue to play fine except background music. SOMETIMES, a restart of the emulator will correct this issue, or exiting and re-entering the location.

- Sometimes the music appears to have bad buffer values or is just completely out of whack. This was first noticed when in towns; the sound emulation is HORRIBLE and the only way to put it is "it's screwed up". Re-start of emulator does not fix this issue.

first, download nsrt and verify that you have a good rom.

Second, maybe you can try re-downloading the patch to see if that got corrupted somehow.

Then, if neither of those works, just go ahead and post the checksum for the ROM here anyway, and maybe someone will have a better idea.

Considering that the game isn't really supposed to work at all, can't you just deal with it? I mean at least the game works, right?

I'm pretty sure that music not playing is an actual bug in the game. It can cause a total crash some times.

I find the sound to be fine on my system. Sound settings: Stereo sound, 32000hz, and gaussian interpolation.

EDIT: Also, if the music ever completely stops on the world map, try to leave the area immediately to ward off a crash. Avoid opening and closing the menu, as well.
Everything I say is a lie.

This has come up a lot on the forum. Go to rpgclassics.com and head to the Star Ocean shrine. Go to the Bugs section and you will find a list of all known bugs. IIRC it will tell you if the bug is a n emu bug or a snes bug.
