Post by momoberry »

I have done everything possible to get the netplay to connect and nothing will work, I did this http://board.zsnes.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3679 and it still does not work. Any help would be very appreciated.

Seriously.. Chances are you:

1) You did something wrong.
2) Your ISP blocks the ports for some reason.

So, if you want help, we need more information.

Zsnes loads. I put in my friends IP to connect to his server and it just says connecting to server... and nothing happens.

First off, I followed every step of this how-to
http://board.zsnes.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3679

Next, I had to configure port forwarding on both my Netgear WGR614 wireless router, as well as my 2Wire Homeportal Modem, provided by my SBC Yahoo! dsl. Also, within my Win XP Pro firewall, I enabled the same ports as instructed for the router and whatnot. Lastly, I have ICS setup, however my desktop is the host, as my X-box and my laptop connect through it: My desktop is on wireless, and I have an ethernet cable out to an ethernet hub (a Netgear EN104tp)

Could the ICS be causing problems even though the computer I'm trying to use is the host for the ICS?

Word of Advice:

Set Windows Firewall to "Off." You already have a router, which is far better than anything Microsoft makes for security.

See if that fixes your problem, assuming everything else is configged properly.

Also:
AntoineWG wrote:The purpose of this guide is to help users who are not very savvy with networking, but not computer illiterate, to configure their routers properly to host ZSNES netplay sessions or improve their netplay experience with UDP connections and to reduce the number of threads started for port forwarding issues.

If you are using Windows Internet Connection sharing, this document won't help you.. I may update it in the future with details on ICS. For the time being, either get a real router (I recommend Netgear) or use the computer that's connected directly to the modem, or even move the modem to the computer of your choice. ICS may be fine for web browsing and email and port forwarding is possible, but ICS introduces an inordinate amount of lag that other routers do not and it will not give you a very good netplay experience.
Notice the highlighted phrase. In addition, you might want to ditch ICS and just have a router, but that's just my opinion.

Well, my internet connection is downstairs, my desktop is upstairs (I have some computers hardwired to my wireless router downstairs) and so I wanted to be able to have an internet connect upstairs for all my stuff (like I said my x-box and my laptop) but the only way I could do that without actually physically running a line downstairs is ICS. And I'm running ZSNES on my Desktop whose connection I am sharing. However, my x-box and my laptop aren't always connected and sharing my internet connection. In the even that they are, I'm not even on my desktop.

But anyways, we tried downloading ZSNES v1.36, and the netplay works good so for anybody that's having this problem, I reccomend doing the same.

My friend and I got it to work actually. We downloaded zbattle, snes9x, and the netplay on those is disabled, but we downloaded zsnes 1.36 and the netplay works on that and we were able to connect.
