St. Patrick's Day in Butte, MT

Post by SquareHead »

I spent the last two nights as a bouncer for the hotel I work at. The fact that anyone claims they are celebrating this here is a load of bullshit. I think the true Irish would be offended at what happens here. Its used here as an excuse for college-aged students to come up here drink until they can't stand and trash town.

It was funny to see the police throw down some smart asses and a few who thought they would get rough with the cops.

So how did everyone else spend their 3-17?

My buddy came over, we had a 12 pack of Guinness, some Jameson whiskey and played Worms and Gears of War on Xbox Live. It was fun, except for the slight hangover this morning.

An awkward morning beats a boring night.

I rarely celebrate any holidays unless it's Thanksgiving, and then on Thanksgiving it's my birthday so that's a good REASON to celebrate. Oh well on St. Packs you could be scarfing down lucky charms instead of whisky or rum or whatever.

Played Dragon Quest VIII for the entire day. Didn't even know it was St. Patrick's Day.

What is this holiday about? Some sorta saints' birthday? We don't celebrate it, I'd never even heard of it till I saw it on the internet a few years ago, but from what I gather it's mostly an excuse to get wasted?

It was mostly people from out of town that were causing trouble.

What kind of rock do you live under?

St Patrick's Day celebrates the death of St Patrick, who is the patron saint of the Irish. He basically converted the islanders from pagans to Christians. The drinking aspect actually started in Boston, I believe, but eventually the Irish started to follow suit after there were so many tourists coming to celebrate, expecting huge parties. Or so my Irish friends tell me.

It is great fun. I drank a bunch of Irish beers and went to the bar and did some major headbanging (my neck is still sore).
<pagefault> i'd break up with my wife if she said FF8 was awesome

I missed the parade. Watched some of the Six NAtions Rugby. Came into college for a little bit to write some emails. Walked into town. Left. Came back in later at night and to take photos. Left. No alcohol consumed.
