We need to have mentioned about transferring save states. Files have to be named properly. Going from a DOS version to Windows/SDL version will require naming the long file names properly from the ~ based files names. Also need to mention to make sure the paths are correct.
Do we have a section covering this? I thought we did, but on a quick search, can't find it.

Is this a good idea? I don't think you should encourage transferring save states. Many save states from older versions of ZSNES don't work and/or have side effects with newer versions. That issue will continue to grow the more ZSNES's fundamental core is changed such as the new CPU core and sound engine.
SRAM transfers in cases where possible would be preferred.

I have a save state collection built up for 8 years or so. We're talking thousands. They all work fine.
Most save state problems are from bad code in various WIPs, or some broken loading code in v1.50 itself. v1.51 is quite good with loading states from any previous official release since 0.600.
I can't guarantee they can't work forever. But I see no reason why one can't try to use old save states. What do you mean by is it a good idea? If it works great, if not, then use the SRM.

I just mentioned that because there have been a few complaints over at ROM hacking.net with people being unable to use their savestates on one of the 1.5x versions.
That was probably with 1.50. I don't remember now. Sounds like that issue was worked out and there shouldn't be any problem in most cases. Carry on and ignore me.
