I'd suggest looking for DVD review sites.. just simply to look at the forums to see what people think about the hardware itself.

I'm not sure ASUS is up there in quality CD/DVD hardware. If anything, they will have rebranded something else.

You can't go wrong with Pioneer or the latest LG models. At least, I don't.
