Stuck in Chrono Trigger

Post by Fragger »

Crap, I'm stuck in Chrono Trigger!

The problem is: I am at the TwinGolems Boss. However, it is apparently impossible to defeat them - i don't have ruby vests etc. anymore, and equipping them and using fire magic seems to be the only way...

I always die after a few rounds. Is there any chance for chrono to save the world from Lavos :P? PLEASE HELP ME GuYS!

CT is one of the easier games in existance. The TwinGolems boss is a joke.

If you didn't bother learning any of the basic level 2 elemental attacks for those that have them, you are doing yourself a grave disservice.

I don't see why you don't have still have Ruby Vests, since that is the best universal armor (other than other pickups) at the time.

Anyways, you want to do an attack barrage where the last attack you make on BOTH targets is either Fire (ideally), or Ice as they imitate the last attack you make. Ideally, there are dual techs that are awesome for this purpose (most elemental base attacks will make them default to the elemental, not physical, which happens to deal the most damage of them all). Also, if you have learned the dual tech Boogie (Ayla+Robo), it will inflict the "Stop" status on them (kinda like Hypno Wave on Masa+Mune, except that attacking the units won't end the status).

Make sure to keep healthy with items or healing magic.

This worked for me:

Crono / Lucca / Frog

- Crono casts Lightning 2 every turn.
- Lucca casts Fire on the left Golem each turn, until Crono runs out of MP, and uses a Full Ether instead.
- Frog casts Heal every turn.

It's not that Chrono Trigger is easy, it's just that by the time everybody played it when it first came out, people were well accustomed to the tasks/tricks/strategy of this type of game.

I would just chalk it up to a "having been there at the time, it was obvious" kind of thing.

That being said, my younger brother would regularly beat Chrono Trigger from start to finish on a weekend "for fun", and complete Sim City's Las Vegas UFO scenerio if he was sick... (Takes about 10 hours, point is to fall asleep until the UFOs attack again).

It's been a while since I played CT, but couldn't you stall the golems almost indefinitely by rotating your attacks?

If I remember right....
They have to "charge" an attack, and they switch attack types every time they're hit with a new one, so if everyone uses a different attack type on them it takes them forever to get enough time to launch an attack, and you can keep them in limbo for the entire fight. Just set up a combo like Lightning 2, Fire 2, Ice 2/Water 2, and keep them in constant rotation(IE: If Crono's fast enough to charge for a second turn before either of the other party members has gone, have him stand there like an idiot until someone else goes first).
They might get a few hits in, but nothing life-threatening.

Gil_Hamilton knows exactly what to do. Other than the move that halves your hp (can't remember the name right now, for shame) and blurp at the end, you can get through the fight without taking any damage this way

Pretty much what your guys' tactics were. I just have chrono+marle attack with ice sword 2 and then lucca cast fire 2 at the other golem. While that's happening all that the golems do now is throw out mediocre attacks, and aura whirl every once in a while and they're good as dead.

Kaaaahahaha I'm back again

No seriously, I just want to answer to the OP post and that's it.

You have to be carefull on how you attack them because they will strike back with the same element, knowing that physical attacks will most likely result in a 1/2 HP counterattack (boulder). Try to determine which of the following types hurt you less:
* lightning
* ice
* fire
* physical (try to avoid it because of the 1/2 HP drop)
And heal often. If you have one heal-all single tech then you're cool (frog or robo do that if I recall correctly), else you can use crono+marle dual tech but you will lose much more time.

I'm playing through the game again, and in retrospect, this game is really easy. Even without New Game +. One of those games where if you just fight every enemy you see, you'll be ok (i.e. absolutely no need for extra level building) and you don't really need to use items (I've gotten to Footsteps, Follow!, and I've only used a revive and tabs so far. Thinking of cutting out tabs :P)

In any case, it's a damn good game.
