Rice Video 1.6.2 (Mudlord's build/unofficial build) issues
Not sure why, but I'm currently using PJ64 v1.6, and using the most recent version of the Rice Video plugin. No matter which mode it is, wether it be OpenGL or Direct X, most of my games, such as Mystical Ninja 64 NTSC/(U), suffer from black flickering graphic and/or missing sound (well there is music, but it sounds like some of the channels are gone). Not sure how to describe it in better words, but, could someone help?
OS - WinXP w/service pack 2
CPU - AMD Sempron 3000+ (2.033GHz)
RAM - 512MB DDR PC3200
Video - eVGA GeForce 5700 LE 256MB RAM
(yeah, I know I've old hardware, but, I've been so
busy lately that I haven't had time/money to upgrade!)[/img]

When was the last time you updated your video card drivers? Also, another video plugin is not an option to you?
Having asked that, I'd recommend Glide64 and hactarux's or ziggy's wrapper any day over Rice's video (Glide64 even has hires textures support soon), even though mudlord has taken over Rice's video plugin development.

(Video card Driver version - 91.47)
Oh, I have other plugins to use, but, I like to experiment with other plugins, you know, to get the best results possible. I just want to know what would be the ideal GPU/SPU plugin combo and the optimal way to configure them for PJ64. Any advice?

Does Glide64 work at high resolutions? (1600x1200 or higher?) I don't think so.Agozer wrote:Well, the default graphics and audio plugins should suffice (jabo's Direct3D8 and Jabo's DirectSound. If you want near perfection and your video card can handle it, use Glide64 like I said earlier.
The Direct3D8 plugin handles up to 2560x1600 with ease.Smooth as silk

maybe for LCD monitors and such?Agozer wrote:I have no idea who would be crazy enough to use such ultra high resolutions or claim that N64 emulation really needs those ultra high resolutions.

Correct.Although your ol' trusty 22" CRT can also handle that.maybe for LCD monitors and such?
Using a HDTV resolution is not crazy at all with a capable display. Now this is what I call crazy:

5120x1600 dual-monitor setup
60 inches of LCD goodness

Available since 2004

that's pretty cool, but for me this is it.
.20mm horizontal dot pitch/0.25mm diagonal dot pitch
PerfectFlat® screen for distortion-free images
flicker-free 2048x1536 resolution at 80Hz
CRTs still have some fight in them
Seriously, what kind of asshole makes an old-school 2D emulator that requires a Core 2 to get full speed? >:(
Good choice. Judging from the specs, looks like you've got one of those high-end ViewSonic 22" models.Panzer88 wrote:that's pretty cool, but for me this is it.

EDIT: I just saw the link in your post...just as I thought - a ViewSonic

Ideal plugins for your card will be Glide64, Direct64 or Jabo's D3D8 plugin. Best SPU combo is Jabo's audio and RSP set.Oh, I have other plugins to use, but, I like to experiment with other plugins, you know, to get the best results possible. Yes, though the newest wrapper with ziggy's depth buffer and new HWFBE implementation doesn't. I recall writing a patch that allows for extra resolutions above 1600x1200 (its stickied on the Emuxhaven forums). I might add anisotropic filtering while I add it to the most recent code (if I get around to it, or if there is enough interest).Does Glide64 work at high resolutions? (1600x1200 or higher?) I don't think so.
Yeah, there is also rendering issues in the OpenGL renderer, which manifest greatly in the Macintosh and Linux ports, that also pop-up in the Windows version. That said, the original poster should use 5.9.9 or a plugin that doesnt resort to as much hacks (like Glide64, Direct64 or Jabo's plugin sets).Always use DirectX with Rice's plugin since the OpenGL mode is not as complete (eg. no framebuffer).
Due to lack of texture compression in the wrapper, it makes a large performance hit on some cards. Especially with games that use large amounts of hardware framebuffers (like Perfect Dark). What would having that high of resolution do!?
