I wonder how the MPAA designed it exactly. It is possible to code and run wholly proprietary software in linux(for example, Opera), but most linux distributions have licenses that prohibit including software without the source being available under a GPL friendly license. The server software itself might be free of GPL violations, but they can't include it on a Ubuntu live CD.
