Need help splitting an SNES rom into 8 Mbit for eprom use

Post by blackrabite »

Hey there, Techies!

My best friend and I are going to attempt to attach some eprom to a normal SNES cartridge so that we can play a translated Bahamut Lagoon on real SNES hardware. We are going to use three pieces of 27C801 eprom, and we're going to use a japanese copy of the Bahamut Lagoon cart.

Here's the question: In what order do I do the patching / splitting of the ROM file? Here's what I think I need to do:

1) Split ROM into three 8 Mbit pieces (SNEStool / Ucon64)
2) Remove header from the pieces (SNEStool / Ucon64)
3) Patch ROM with English translation " "

Is this the right order in which to do things? Thank you all so much for your help. We both greatly appreciate it!

Sincerely,
Ben

Very no.

The header should come off FIRST. Or second, depending on whether the patch needs a header.

Splitting it should be the LAST thing you do.

Well, thanks. That's why we're asking... heh. Anyway, I've got it split into three 8 Mbit parts now (each at 1024 Kilobytes, so it's looking pretty good). Now it's just a matter off getting the eprom and getting it programmed. Then, on to the soldering / re-wiring.

Eprom Writers

Post by blackrabite »

While we're at it, can anybody recommend an inexpensive eprom writer which is compatible with the 27C801 8 Mbit eprom? I hear some people mention the brand Willem...

Thanks again for helping out a rookie!

Regards,
Ben
