Well... but that's a budget issue more than a SNES limitation.
The SNES could support larger ROM carts, but it jacked the game cost up.

Coding in compression routines would boost your text space without boosting the ROM size. But when you're on a tight schedule...

Well, it'd STILL be SCEA's fault, just not their translators.

But you're mistaken.

Why? I mean, there's one FF6 "retranslation" out there that tries exactly that, and IMHO it sucks balls.
dude, that, retranslation was done by a person who himself admits he was still a beginner and wrote things a lot dryer than the original script ever was or was intended to be.

have you played the GBA version? It's not perfect but a healthier balance from what I've heard.

basically the original script was pretty good and pretty serious and dramatic and a lot of the localization ends up making things lighter and hokier than the original ever was. Not try to rag on Woosly, I'm just saying, he was writing it to a younger audience that in was originally written and sold to.

Are we talking about Skyrender here? Man, don't even try to defend the guy.

If not, don't pay attention to this post.

dude, I'm not defending him, I'm saying that retranslation was dry (an insult), but just because it was doesn't mean the original Japanese script is.

I also said Woosley's version lacked something, but I can't blame him too much.

READ what I say.

Ah, Blackmyst is the one saying it sucks, you are the one saying "was donde by a person who himself admits he was still a beginner and wrote things a lot dryer than the original script ever was or intended to be", the way you wrote it, looks like you are making excuses for him..

Not really insulting, reread what I quoted.

dry is not a compliment,

here is what I said rephrased, "even the person who wrote that retranslation says it's flawed"

my point is that you shouldn't judge the original game by that retranslation.

got me?

even though I didn't plan on saying anything until Joe posted, I think I'll state it now.

I think it's a little pointless to be so reactive about a guy who was an asshole 4 years ago

It's over. Get over it.

Maybe, just maybe, he's learned a few things and realizes that he said some stupid things.

lets try to be a little mature about it eh?

What? I wasn't even sure who's translation it was, or how old it is. I'm saying I don't like it, now, regardless of who made it. I'm not being reactive about anyone. :p

deathlike: Never saw that. Never tried upgrading a weapon I couldn't upgrade.

neo: Haven't played FF7 in long enough to remember most of the actual dialog, but that sounds about right.

gil: I blamed "woosley" like that to be mocking of people that blame him.

panzer: ... what?

corron: Or like complaining you should have had this girl tested before you let her in the house?

blackmyst: I played it, I couldn't get too far because the text hurt my eyes to read on a 13-inch monitor.

Sorry, I have a bad habit of not quoting on forums because... 475mhz processor. Usually by the time all the extra pages are done loading for me to get the quotes off of, my post no longer applies, or has already been said.

Anyways, I was referring to the 'fan translation' of FF6.

There's plenty more where that came from, and frankly it is silly to think this hasn't existed since the creation of the written word.

Besides, blaming Woosley is silly. Blame yourself for not exercising your brain.

But this is a SNES game, the text is absolutely huge, large enough to be read on something tiny like a GBA screen with no trouble. You must really need glasses if it's unreadable to you on a comparatively gigantic 13 inch monitor.

blackmyst, rydian: monitor: CRT or LCD?

if the former, sitting further away would help the eyes
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

deathlike: I'm pretty sure I already explained the woolsey thing...

blackmyst: I'm talking about the fan translation that uses custom fonts. Small enough to have a little pixelated curls, not like calculator text. Also, I tend to not sit too close to my monitor when I game ('cause I don't do FPS's for the most part), 'cause it almost dulls out the fact that I'm playing SNES games on a keyboard... still haven't found my gamepad from unpacking.

Link: They make 13 inch LCDs? XD Yeah, it's a CRT.

Man, some of you need more practice at being mean. Some of you have it down pat, but some of you... Tsk tsk. Put more effort into it.

Panzer: No, it's because your hand and crotch love eachother so much.

myst: The GBA isn't a CRT, and since the games are made for a small screen, professional developers make the text easy to read.
You have seen the fan translation, right? The text would be hard to read if it was on a GBA.
