For those of you that don't know, ATI's HD 38xx series is the competitor to nvidia's 8-series cards... though they are not as good as anything above the 320/640 meg GTS models.
So Nvidia's had the top of the market with the GTS 512 and GT and GTX and ultra cards for a while now.
So when details were leaked about a new ATI card, people got excited.
For nothing.
It's apparantly going to be a level or two below their 3800 series. A 64-bit memory bandwidth?
What do you think this will be for?
Radeon 3400 HD series.

Radeon 3400 HD series.
Athlon XP 2800+
765MB DDR-333
AGP Geforce 6200
Took me, what, a year to update this info?
And meh, screw legs.
Oh... puns. I get it. Shame on me.

They're not,if the price is rightI.S.T. wrote:Those are actually refreshes of the HD 2400 and HD 2600 series', but with barely any changes.
They're worthless, IMO...

Very nice as a low-cost noiseless HTPC graphics card. The image quality,video/HDTV acceleration and in/out capabilities are outstanding for such a cheap card

Perfect for old box -> HTPC recyclers (the AGP version will sell like hotcakes)

Yeah, if these can be put into normal desktop configurations for the average person, instead of integrated intel stuff, it'll improve performance in vista with aero on, and of course provide multiple displays and stuff without being a $90 7600GT.

Sorry, I wasn't clear. I meant worthless compared to the original models, especially seeing as how they'll be price cut when the new models are released.kick wrote:They're not,if the price is rightI.S.T. wrote:Those are actually refreshes of the HD 2400 and HD 2600 series', but with barely any changes.

DX10.1 would be too slow on the 3400, even for development purposes. Maybe not on the 3600...

And PCI Express 2.0 will make literally no difference in this case. None. If your card breaks down(And these things will last years, probably...), you'll buy a cheapo card from that generation, not spend a week and a half tracking this one down.
