Are you talking about Super Metroid? It seems to me it has the usual speed difference.
It's slower due to the PAL slower stuff. But the animation cycles in approximatively the same amount of real time, hence 'similar' (animation) speed.

SFC and US SNES versions are identical.

Granted, the J cart is shaped much nicer.
I know, I have a PAL SNES and I don't want to rape the case or buy a converter for just one game, so I'd rather buy the Japanese version with it being in English and all. It's generally sold cheaper too.
Hope I won't screw up installing that 50/60 switch...
