Why AVG 2008 takes up so many resources

Not very often. And yes I was in that section, even though it was "enabled", Windows kept telling me that my AV was "not enabled" and kept on having the bloody security warning bubble pop up. So, I got rid of it and went for Avira Anti vir instead. AVG was getting on my nerves.

You can tell windows to let you monitor itself and it will stop bugging you, just hit the "recommend" button and then tell it you will monitor your own virus software.

something as trivial as that is a poor reason to swap virus scanners imho.

Well, if I had bothered realizing I could do that, then I would've. And as I said before, the bloody Resident Scanner mode was disabled without me doing anything (stopped for no reason). I couldn't reactivate the stupid thing, so, I switched AV software. It really pissed me off.

AVG 2008 has a free version.
