Rom keeps freezing

Post by Chaoticjosh »

I apologize if this isn't the right place to bring this up.

I've been playing a rom of super mario rpg: legend of the seven stars, and i continue to run into this odd situation where if i'm in the equipment or inventory screens, the rom will freeze for no good reason. fortunately, i have a key with the "rewind" command bound to it, so if i run into these situations, i just rewind a couple seconds, and i'm alright.

also, the rom will slow down during fights when their are alot of characters or action going on, but other times it slows down for no reason at all.

unfortunately, upon defeating a specific story-relevant boss, i'm forced to undergo an unskippable, unavoidable cutscene and at this point my rom ALWAYS freezes, and i can't continue the game. saving/reloading and resetting the rom didn't work, persistant savestate trial and error didn't work, and deleting my rom and re-downloading it didn't work.

while i suspect the rom, the site in question has a user voted satisfaction rating type system, and that rates my rom as "very high quality", and so i suspect my zsnes emulator.

is their anything i can change in the config that will help fix my game?

Unfortunately, the latest version doesn't play as nicely with Mario RPG as older versions do.
If I recall, 1.42 is a better bet for that game right now.

thank you very much! after downloading version 1.42, i loaded up my savestate at where i was stuck, and i could continue. this is a great relief, as i loved this game from my childhood.

its too bad that for some reason my 1.51 version of zsnes had its configuration all erased for some reason. guess i'll have to get around to rearranging all the keys and settings to how i like them tomorrow.

Input configurations were moved to zinput.cfg post-1.42, hence why old settings from 1.51 do not work with 1.42.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.
