tool to verify roms like NSRT will, but for NES/GB..

Feel free to discuss anything gaming related.

You could install Virtual PC 7.0 on your Mac and run goodnes off of that. Heck if you don't want to install Windows just get a ReactOS iso. I've run goodnes off of it before. Not the most ellegant solution, but it works.

They're of no real concern.
while it probably true on SNES roms, but not quite so for NES stuff, especialy regarding:
Unfortunately for the emulation community, there's roughly nine billion, three thousand, two hundred and forty-one different bank-switching chips.
And many of them were discovered after the last official upadte to the iNES standard.

Let's just say it gets messy.
sometime, i do have to fix the iNES header infos, so emulator will properly use the correct mapper, less often when the emu have access to verified roms database...

GBx/GBA datfile issue with uCON64

Post by tellyup »

Well you must enjoy it then. Here's another question.. I got uCON64 playing by my rules now, things are working out. But I have no joy with the GBx/GBA dats.

I downloaded the SNES and NES dats from uCON64's website and they work fine, but when I use the dats from Goodxxx or from no-intro (RC) they will not rename a ROM to the name in the datfile and I get this error:

uCON64 2.0.0 Apple (PPC) 1999-2005
Uses code from various people. See 'developers.html' for more!

ERROR: Not enough memory for buffer (-1 bytes)

Where do I get a dat file for the GBx and GBA that will work, it will show related info on a query of a particular ROM, but not like I say export the ROM with the name inside the datfile.

Well, iNES itself is a problematic format.
The emulators often have to work things out on their own either way.

But you're right, the iNES header is usually beneficial, if not required.

iI need a GBx/GBA dat file that works with uCON64

Post by tellyup »

Alright, can anybody confirm then that for themselves they have a dat file for the GBx and/or GBA which uCON64 accepts. For example uCON64 will interrogate the dat in order to correctly rename the ROM.

If so please could somebody point to it or email me it.

If you had the file Nintendo - Game Boy Advance (20080911_RC).dat you'd have to rename it to gba-20080911.dat. I don't know why you have to do that but it wouldn't rename the files at all. I ran it with ./ucon64 --scan --rename ./roms and everything was peachy.

saddsaf.gba
Checksum (CRC32): 0x1428fe1c
DAT info:
Game Boy Advance
F-14 Tomcat (USA, Europe)
4194304 Bytes (32.0000 Mb)
gba-20081111.dat (20080911, ?, Nintendo - Game Boy Advance (not numbered))

Renaming "saddsaf.gba" to "F-14 Tomcat (USA, Europe).gba"
sdfsdaf.zip (0096 - F-14 Tomcat (UE).gba)

Thank you, I cant try that my end right now but cant wait. How did you come to that one, it nice to know I wasn't wrong on this one. What about the GBx dat, there is a GoodTools one, maybe that just needs to be renamed?

I think people who enjoyed the NES/SNES have more of an affinity with the DMG games than the advanced and so its important I nail that dat.

Thanks for helping.

No problem, Well I hope it works for you. If not I can try helping a bit more. As for how I got to it I was just screwing around till it started working. Funny enough I've never used a Mac before until today. It's a a bit annoying since I'm used to using a *nix desktop or Windows.

Actually, I think I've been around longer.
I just died after a while and reincarnated in a hot new young body. Like Doctor Who.

Makes me wonder what your old body was like.

No, AFTER the DDR.
