I used rockbox like five months ago, it was too laggy for me. I'd hit pause, and like five seconds later it would pause. it had fucking awesome features like hdd access icon, music/backlight fading in and out, adjustable fast forwarding, not to mention kickass themes.

I do get the lag sometimes, I hope it's something they'll continue to address. There are a couple of settings you can adjust that do help reduce lag... "load to RAM (when using database)" and "dircache (when using file browser)" both can be used to greatly, greatly speed up response time on a player (EDIT: those do come at the cost of some battery life, but I have yet to run out of charge on a trip, so I keep dircache on).
What did you install it onto, out of curiosity? I've only seen it in action on ipods.

Well, I started with a 30GB Zen Xtra refurb.Johan_H wrote:I don't really see the point of having > 1 or 2 GB of MP3's with you. At least the advantages can't be worth all that extra $$$?
It had a few... glitches, and was really a bit bigger than was convenient for me.
But I grew very used to having most of my music library available at once.
And buttons. If I had to pick ONE reason not to get an iPod *, it would be the lack of tactile feedback.
Shuffle excepted. But the Shuffle is an insult. It's one of the most expensive and featureless players in it's class(no display WHATSOEVER)
