Zsnes isn't starting
I have been using Zsnes for years now and I've never come across a
single problem but now all of a sudden it won't work anymore.
Up until recently I was using Zsnes 1.31br1.04 (I never thought to
look for a newer version) and as I said, it's worked fine for years.
A few days ago, it just didn't work and now it's not working at all.
I've tried using Zsnes 1.51 and I get the same problem.
I double click the exe and a black screen comes up and thats it.
It wont respond and it wont shut down until I close the process
(Thats a bad thing to do, I know...)
The only thing that has changed since it last worked is that I've install
AIM and Yahoo! Messenger and although I've uninstalled Yahoo!
Messenger I still get the same problem.
I am using Windows XP, it sometimes gives me this error report:
C:\DOCUME~1\----\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERcf32.dir00\zsnesw.exe.mdmp
C:\DOCUME~1\----\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERcf32.dir00\appcompat.txt
Please advise, I don't know what to do. Is there a program conflicting
with zsnes?

1) Consider rebooting your system.
2) Close all apps that are not needed at the moment.
3) Edit zsnesw.cfg and try a different video mode.
4) Make sure DDraw acceleration is enabled in "DXDiag" ("run" the app in the quotes.
You shouldn't have to be running an application compatibility mode at all.

I've tried restarting and changing video mode and that hasn't done anything
(Though I only tried on other video mode, but I will try the others.) I don't
know what DXDiag is, I'm not really computer savvy as I should be. I also
tried closing down every program I thought was unnecessary programs
running in the background and it still wont start up.

I fixed it.
I was having the same problem on win xp, so I ran the games troubleshooter. It suggested disabling the video acceleration and write combining under display proprities. So I did that, restarted my comp, and ZSNES worked after that. So thats how i fixed ZSNES.
Edit: You can also fix this by opening dxdiag, clicking on the display tab, then disabling directdraw accelerations. With this method, there is no need to reboot!

hi, my zsnes is starting, it all gets white. What I tried was opening a ROM with zsnes ( you extract the rom, the right click and select OPEN WITH..zsnes) and I was able to hear the sound of the rom, but the video was still WHITe.... now i Know that zsnes is working but something is happening with the video configuration, i dont know. Does anyone knows what needs to be configured or edited in zsnes? or what could be the confliction? thanks!

I have the same problem as the topic starter... I've used Zsnes for ages and all of a sudden all I get is a black screen that does nothing. On a random note, if I change the video mode in the config file, I get black screens in varying sizes! hooray. D:
Oh and I haven't installed anything new since Zsnes last worked. I tried everything suggested in this thread but none of it works. I tried different versions of Zsnes as well but that didn't help either. The only difference was that some versions (such as 141) showed my mouse on the black area whereas, for example, 151 didn't. Doubt that matters though.

It seems I have ATI Mobility Radeon 9200. Haha, laptop love
I've been messing around with this a lot, trying everything I saw in the FAQ and every topic about this on the forums but nothing seems to be helping. I will keep trying, it seems there are a few versions of Zsnes I haven't tested everything on yet.
*Edit*
YAY! Version 1.20 works! Anything above that doesn't but it's ok. Why things suddenly stopped working is still a mystery to me but I decided to drop it and be happy with 1.20.
Thanks for trying to help~
