It is not ever a matter of ZSNES or any emu supporting a controller. It's a matter if your computer recognizes it.

If it works in the Controller test for whatever OS you use, then it will be fine.

Pretty much. Most, if not all, Windows-based emulators rely on the OS to do gamepad detection and processing.

I assume the case is similar for Linux- and Mac-based emulators.

And you would be correct. As long as the appropriate HID and controller drivers are in the kernel (or are loaded as modules), it should detect and work fine.
