SRM Files from ZSNES 1.51 in Windows 7 [SOLVED]
Hi all. I began playing Super Mario RPG a few weeks ago and noticed it was a little glitchy. Then I came across this post:
http://board.zsnes.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12400
And figured out why. Now I'm trying to find out if there's a way to transfer my saved game (in game) to a previous version of ZSNES (the post recommends v 1.42) or to another emulator. I was going to try to save an SRM file but couldn't figure out how to do so on ZSNES 1.51. I checked "SRAM Check+Save" in the "Saves" menu under "Configure" and set a file path in the "Paths" menu. This, however, did not create to .srm file in the specified location. I also searched the forum for a fix but couldn't find anything. I suspect there's something simple that I'm overlooking.
In any case, I would appreciate any assistance with information on either (a.) a method to get the .srm file or (b.) transfer my saved gave. Thanks in advance!!
**EDIT**
A little more information:
I'm using Windows 7 64-bit
I tried installing ZSNES 1.42 and loading the .smc file, but my saved game was gone. When I loaded the same file from ZSNES 1.51, the saved game was there.

Re: SRM Files from ZSNES 1.51
what do you have the save path set to in each version?
also, do a brute-force Windows search for *.srm if you really can't find it.

Re: SRM Files from ZSNES 1.51
I believe the save path is:
C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\ZSNES\ROMS
This is the directory where I keep my ROM files associated with ZSNES.
I'm also fairly new to Windows 7 after using XP for the past eight years of so. I tried using the search function in the start menu to search for the title of the rom .srm . Are you suggesting a different search method? And if so, how do I go about doing that?

"i believe" is the source of many such problems. open up each version, check the save path, and report it here verbatim.questorps7 wrote:I believe the save path is:

open a "Computer" window and use the box in the upper-right to search for "*.srm*, making sure to include non-indexed locations if asked.questorps7 wrote:I'm also fairly new to Windows 7 after using XP for the past eight years of so. Re: SRM Files from ZSNES 1.51
OK -- I did a search for *.srm as you suggested and found the files in the oddest place:
C:\Users\[My Name]\AppData\Local\Virtual Store\Program Files (x86)\ZSNES
Knowing this, I installed ZSNES 1.42 and placed it in its own folder in my program files directory (Program Files (x86)\ZSNES 1.42). I then launched Super Mario RPG in ZSNES 1.42, played for a moment and closed the program. Finally, I went to the above file path (which was associated with ZSNES 1.51), copied all the files associated with Super Mario RPG and moved them to:
C:\Users\[My Name]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\ZSNES 1.42
When I launched the game in 1.42 again, my save file was there. And the game seems to be much less glitchy.
Thanks for all your help. Hopefully anyone running the program on Windows 7 will see this post and find it useful as well, especially for finding their .srm files.

Re: SRM Files from ZSNES 1.51 in Windows 7 [SOLVED]
really, the best thing to do is use a sensible location (e.g. c:\emulators\snes\save) and manually define the save path as such.
i've been using win7 x64 since release and have never had any such problems.

Those default local directory trees are getting ridiculous.

Re: SRM Files from ZSNES 1.51 in Windows 7 [SOLVED]
win 6.x virtualizes writes to %programfiles% and %programfiles(x86)% and moves them to the "local\Virtual Store" subdir of %appdata%, since applications are supposed to use %appdata% exclusively.
