Weird Yoshi's Island Stuff

Post by non-1337 »

Uh, just wanted to report this, when playing Yoshi's Island (and some other games, I can't remember), Yoshi's head seems to "flicker" and pop out of place. The weird thing is that it seems to be pretty random, happening at random times/places. Also, when taking screenshots (I've taken a lot of 'em), the shots look pretty normal, so I didn't post any. I thought that it was the ROM, but it never happens (or happened) at SNES9x or the non-WIP zSNES. Here is the ROM info:

File: Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island (E) (V1.0).smc Header: No
YOSHI'S ISLAND TYPE:SUPER FX
INTERLEAVED:No BANK:Lo CHKSUM:OK
VIDEO:PAL CRC32:7BDC6A78

I'm using 10/24/04WIP and on an AthlonXP 1050 Thunderbird, nVidia TNT2 Video card (using latest drivers), on Windows XP, by the way.

.. Oh, wait, I just remembered some of the games I saw this in: Syodai Nekketsu Kouha Kunio Kun, and Super Genjin 2.

Thanks a lot.

Well, it doesn't happen on my US version. Maybe it's a PAL issue?

Code: Select all

Yoshi's Island (V1.0) (U).smc Header: Yes
YOSHI'S ISLAND TYPE:SUPER FX
INTERLEAVED:No BANK:Lo CHKSUM:OK
VIDEO:NTSC CRC32:D138F224
Try out CCleaner and other free software at Piriform

very likely, since my US version is ok as well.

CRC32 Unknown. There's a decent chance your ROM is bad or interleaved.
May 9 2007 - NSRT 3.4, now with lots of hashing and even more accurate information! Go download it.

Yup, it's interleaved. Fix it by using -deint, then see if ZSNES still has problems with it.

Damn Nach, how did you get so good at knowing when a ROM is interleaved or not :D

Practice makes perfect. Working with SNES ROMs for 4 years on the cutting edge of research, you really start to get a feel for what you can expect based on minimal data.

Alright, deinterleaved my ROM (can anyone tell me what's the difference between interlewved and non-interleaved ROMs?)
.. I was testing a few state saves, and the flickering was still there.. It wasn't just on Yoshi, but it was on anything resembling the color pink (blocks, yoshi, baddies, etc)! Hope someone can figure this out...
Thanks again.

Try if the problems disappear when you play without savestates. They might also disappear when you enter a new area of the game (eg. map screen etc.).
