zsnes on linux through wine

Post by nenyo »

ZSNES is one of my favorite apps for windows (ack). its simple, easy to use and there is NO INSTALLATION :D !!! i love it. i recently switched to linux (yay) but now i cant run zsnes. i dont want to even attemt the linux installation cause im still a newb. i used wine to get some other things working and it all does fine. when i try to open zsnes it say it cant continue because it doesn't support 24 bpp color. i realy dont see any differance between the two color settings. anyway i cant figure out how to change my color to 32 bpp. im running mandrake 10.1 and it defaulted to 24. is there a way to change it in a GUI with out haveing to edit something that could potentialy mess up my computer and give me a lot of troubles later fixing it.

or another solution to my problem would be for the nice people at zsnes to hurry up and include more color support. but i kind of want to play my games now and im sure they wouldn't want the the extra work

WINE doesn't correctly provide the input functions ZSNESW uses.

As in after you get ZSNESW working in WINE you won't be able to input anything except via the mouse.

I know you can use Control Center in KDE, not sure what other things use.

For ZSNES, read install.txt that comes with ZSNES source in the docs directory.

Why not? Are we stupid morons like Sierra that save completely different information about a game in our save files based on the OS?

crap... well, i looked through the install file and didn't understnd a single bit of it. ive heard of nasm before but thats it. it looks like there is a list of about 20 other progs that are dependancies zsnes needs. im not then good with stuff like that right now, so i guess i'll just play with zsnes at school on windows machines for now. thx anyway for your help.

Technically, 24bpp in Linux is the same as 32bpp in Windows. They're just named differently.

And just so you know, nenyo, the ZSNES compilation isn't that hard. Just follow the instructions in INSTALL.TXT and you'll be fine.

uhmm...just a little curious...why bother running Linux if you're just going to use windows apps?
