NSRT/JMA questions

Post by Player1 »

I have many roms and want convert them to jma files, because I have a few roms with IPS paches I just wanted to ask if it is safe.

I havn't tried yet, but is there a guide how to compress/decompress from jma?

Stick 'em all in one folder, make sure you have the latest NSRT and it is in your PATH, then go to a command prompt, change to that folder, and type

Code: Select all

nsrt -rename -savetype jma -lowext *.*
You can leave out the -lowext if you want uppercase file extensions.

I don't know why anyone would want uppercase extentions. To me it's like typing in caps, it's like you're yelling. HEY, I AM A SWC FILE.
<Guo_Si> Hey, you know what sucks?
<TheXPhial> vaccuums
<Guo_Si> Hey, you know what sucks in a metaphorical sense?
<TheXPhial> black holes
<Guo_Si> Hey, you know what just isn't cool?
<TheXPhial> lava?
It's an accronym, it should be in caps. In fact all filenames should be in 8.3 caps.

True, but 3-4 letter lower case extensions have become the unspoken standard for some reason. Probably because many extensions aren't acronyms, and even a lot that are get cut down, like MPEG to MPG, which makes it sort of a bastard acronym. That, plus the fact that Exe looks really obnoxious coming after a filename because it is a cut off word, and you're looking at an erratic enforcement for bastard acronyms and cut off words coming after proper language. It doesn't look good. And I don't share the affinity for 8 char max filenames of old either. If we can make filenames more readable and less decipherable, then all the better.

FitzRoy: so for people like you, you can use long file names. You could lower case the extension too if that's what you like.

Don't like spaces in your long filenames? We got underscores.

You like sorting? Got 11 different ways you can sort, and you're free to mix and match.

I try to give everyone the ability to do what they want, since everyone is entitled to do their own likes and dislikes. A type of naming convention missing that you'd like? Just feel free to put in a feature request.

Yep, that's the important thing. I just think some people might find it odd for that particular setting to have the default as uppercase and not the other way around. It seems like the majority would prefer lowercase.

If anyone wants my half a cent, my preference is lower case extensions as well.

Windows XP seems to use lower case extensions by default for all it's files that the OS installs. I use lowercase as well, since uppercase would out of place when 99% of the files on my PC have lowercase extensions.

Lowercase needs less space with most fonts, so that's what I prefer.
