ZMV Movie Playback

Post by octium »

  • I've downloaded some ZMVs of people beating entire games, such as Megaman X3, but each movie eventually reaches a point where it glitches, and it looks like the player has lost their mind, jumping freely into pits, and shooting at things that aren't there. I can obviously tell the movie went out of sequence somehow.
  • When I record my own ZMVs, the videos tend to screw up at a certain point. I tried a Megaman X1 speed run, and beat the game dying just once. I would have loved to show my friends, but it just messes up after I beat a few bosses.
  • When I play games in ZSNES, the program never hiccups, speeds up, or slows down.
I'll post my hardware and software settings for you.

Wow, nice bug report. I wish we would get more people who take time to actually list the things we ask for. Unfortunately, in this case not much of it is needed. :/

1) The internal timing of the emulator differs from version to version. Thus, movies recorded with older versions of ZSNES may not work well with current versions. They may not work at all, or they may run for a while, then mess up.

2) ZSNES versions post-1.0 (IIRC) are subject to desync issues - unless the game is running at 60FPS, 100% of the time, when recording AND playing back, they are liable to mess up. Even slight, brief speed drops will screw it up. ZSNES 1.43 will fix this, as well as bringing a host of much-wanted features.

Thanks for the reply, Noxious Ninja. I guess I'll wait until they release the new version.

Where could I find some more information about the new implementations for ZSNES 1.43?

Wow, that's the best bug report I've seen. Did you try using 1.42?

I'm going to try the latest WIP version of ZSNES, and record a few games all the way through to the end and see what happens. I'll post a reply if everything goes perfectly. Otherwise I'll just wait for 1.43, which I'm greatly looking forward to.

See you guys around.

Thanks Nach, for the information you provided. You guys are definately working hard to bring some great features to this emulator. The dump to AVI feature is something I've been dreaming of.

And thanks snkcube, for the comment. I like to be thorough.
