the F1 menu

Post by Man »

Hello. I've enjoyed and appreciated ZSNES for years, so I thank whoever contributors are reading this.

I have a little feature request: Would it be easy enough to allow the F1 menu to be freely movable or--better yet--disappear entirely and still operate? That would be much nicer than the current high/low toggle.

Sometimes, the menu just gets in the way--while capturing sprites, studying game physics... Does anyone feel the same way? Thanks for your time.

The F1 menu would be pretty hard to change in it's current state. Do you have any suggestions to improving it without any drastic changes?

Thanks for replying!

If I remember correctly, the current menu has items F1-F7 (or something similar), with F1 closing the menu. I was thinking a simple addition of F8 to toggle the blitting of the menu--that's all. The user could then use the F1-F7 keys for snapping screen shots, incrementing frames, etc without the menu getting in the way. They would just have to memorize the function keys.

Does that sound like too much? I have little understanding.

Whoops, I totally got that wrong. Playing a game today, I noticed the F1 menu takes input with the cursor keys--not the function keys. Oh, well. Actually, toggling the menu blitting would still be nice, having to memorize the menu item order and the current cursor position, but most people would understandably consider that a bad feature.
