Well, I'm glad this thread is back, during my break I took the challenge of playing the 6 megaman nes games on my GC, and let me tell you this: Megaman 2 is the best of them, closely followed by 3. 4, 5 and 6 make stuff too easy, the first game is too clumsy (Damn you Gutsman stage) but 2 just clicks.
Hell, I even had a nirvana moment and defeated the "Alien" in MM2 without getting hit. It's been I while, since Viewtiful Joe that I fell so good playing a videogame.
So I'm glad they are releasing this game.
METAL BLADES FOR THE WIN!!

I wouldn't say a ripoff, after all, they are from the same series, and with 9 games under the classic line, I assume it would be hard to keep being original.. Or do you want 8 more Top Man types?odditude wrote:the two robot masters that i've seen irk me. the artwork and spriting seem to be blatant rips off previous bosses. (concreteman = stoneman, magmaman = needleman)
Still, it doesn't hold a candle to the "Storm Eagle" and "Storm Owl" from the X series.

Compare the artwork and sprites side-by-side. I'm not talking about a lack of originality, I'm talking about actual re-use of the artwork and sprites.Joe Camacho wrote:I wouldn't say a ripoff, after all, they are from the same series, and with 9 games under the classic line, I assume it would be hard to keep being original..odditude wrote:the two robot masters that i've seen irk me. the artwork and spriting seem to be blatant rips off previous bosses. I have seen images of concreteman as a Mega Man 8 sprite, so I don't think they actually reused the sprites, maybe they do have similar artwork, but then again, after a bunch of games, it would be hard to stay original, I guess.odditude wrote:Compare the artwork and sprites side-by-side. Mega Man 9 gets "real" game packaging. It's pretty sweet looking.

I still don't get why they went with such horrible horrible art, though.
Blahblah, Megaman 1, etc.

It really baffles me how you could possibly not see why they would make it look like that.Gil_Hamilton wrote:That CD case is fuckin' awesome.snkcube wrote:http://kotaku.com/5050627/capcoms-amazi ... -9-box-art

I don't understand why you would intentionally remind people that you were once so incompetent as to be a running joke for decades.blackmyst wrote:It really baffles me how you could possibly not see why they would make it look like that.Gil_Hamilton wrote:That CD case is fuckin' awesome.snkcube wrote:http://kotaku.com/5050627/capcoms-amazi ... -9-box-art

Especially if you're gonna whiff it. That Megaman's not wrinkly and arthritic, nor does he have the baggy yellow apron. The only things it takes from the original are the 3D grid background(which is reworked so it doesn't look stupid) and the logo.
Though...
The gunarm looks like it came from the European Megaman 2 box, which is a different kind of awful.
And the handgun came from the US MM2 box, which I personally think is a cool box, retarded or not.
And the robot in the corner... US MM3 Sparkman.
They shoulda used the evil grin on Megaman's face from that one if they're just going for an amalgam of worst moments in Megaman packaging history.
For the "lol retro, awesome!" appeal. This game for most people will be about nostalgia, bad box art makes people feel nostalgic. It's simply good marketing.Gil_Hamilton wrote:I don't understand why you would intentionally remind people that you were once so incompetent as to be a running joke for decades.
I have split feelings about this, I think it's both stupid and pretty neat.

I think it was good for a giggle, but not as their primary piece of marketing material.Johan_H wrote:For the "lol retro, awesome!" appeal.
