Its the Bios on the cards, VGASave makes use of VESA functions, which are no longer supported in the card bios.kick wrote:Another weird thing about the ATI cards is the extremely bad performance on Windows without drivers (using VgaSave) and in Safe Mode. With the older cards it was tolerable, but with the latest series it's a pain in the ass, like watching a slideshow.Older nVidia cards were optimized for this mode,so the performance was close to the one with native drivers.
If you do a lot of (troubleshooting/cleaning/repair) work in Safe Mode, this can be a real problem.
I don't know if the latest nVidia cards now have the same problem as the ATI ones (since they lack dedicated 2D hardware)

I pity the fool who thinks WHQL instantly means a drivers gunna be good.
Especially since the opposite is more accurately the truth.
Franpa knows what im saying.

Heh,this wasn't a bug at all:

Easily fixed by installing the latest WMP runtimes
The real bug is with WMV video acceleration - it doesn't work on XP.

Just stumbled upon a post in the AVS forums discussing about a similar issue and I was surprised when I saw many familiar names there, like Squall_Leonhart, tetsuo55 and other people from the ZSNES forums
Does any of you know if there's any way to get DXVA 1.0 WMV acceleration working under XP with the latest AGP hotfix driver? (with WMP and/or Media player Classic).Do I have to install WMP11, WMP10 or just the WMP11 runtimes?

AMD has just released a new driver (9.2) for their ATI Radeon GPUs.
One of the OpenGL bugs is fixed: glGetString(GL_VERSION) works now with an OpenGL 3.0 context.
The other bug is not: GLView still reports 95% GL3 support (no GLSL 1.30),even though it is there.
The driver adds 3 new OpenGL extensions, for a total of 133.

I had OpenGL issues and was trying out different drivers and tried 181.22, 182.05, 182.06 and 185.20 but none fixed the issue :/ I believe it to be Nvidia's failtastic x64 support?
I can reinstall 182.06 though... brb.
EDIT: sorry, I thought I still had the drivers downloaded... I can't be bothered downloading a 100mb file that i know fails to function correctly in OpenGL games just for a test...

Interesting stuff. The ATI OpenGL driver already supports some features of Shader Model 5.0The Radeon HD4k series has only one extension more (GL_AMD_texture_texture4).

Now WTF is WGL_AMDX_gpu_association?

if i had to make a an out-of-my-ass guess, i'd assume it's the ability to restrict operation to a specific GPU or subset of GPUs in a CrossFire or CrossFireX system (including those with a single multi-GPU card, like the 4850X2 et al).kick wrote:Now WTF is WGL_AMDX_gpu_association?
Why yes, my shift key *IS* broken.

Marketing is involved somewhere, besides making excuses for new video cards.h4tred wrote:WtF. Just when we have enough power with SM3, this shit comes along.Shader Model 5.0
Seriously MS, stop being so retarded. SM3/4 is all we need.
Continuing FF4 Research...
It's the equivalent of 'WGL_NV_gpu_affinity'odditude wrote:if i had to make a an out-of-my-ass guess, i'd assume it's the ability to restrict operation to a specific GPU or subset of GPUs in a CrossFire or CrossFireX system (including those with a single multi-GPU card, like the 4850X2 et al).kick wrote:Now WTF is WGL_AMDX_gpu_association?
But unlike the (workstation-only) nV extension, this one is made to work on consumer cards as well.
