Yes, this is exactly what I was saying. It is not "bad practice" as Kagerato stated to use SRAM as work RAM if that is what it was intended for.Nach wrote:You see docs and programs on the web which will tell you something like ROM+Expansion RAM+SRAM.
There is nothing remotely like that. The same chip used for backup on one cart is used for work RAM on another cart. There is no game which has two different RAM chips on it.
The RAM works as a place to store data and some games back it up and some do not. Hence SRAM is Static RAM, nothing more nothing less. Expansion RAM == SRAM. Do not defrentiate between the two.

Given that information, I concede that it is impossible to consider static ram and battery (or otherwise maintained) save ram as identical [even under most cases], and therefore the rest of my points do not apply (since, as a result, they apply to a theoretical scenario which was proven an incorrect view of reality).
Re: Yoshi's Island help
Sorry to bring this up, but, like the OP, this game is the only one that doesn't seem to save on my machine. Using both the latest ZSNES and the SRAM check + save option. (Old GFX engine as noted in another post to avoid some graphical errors later on.)
EDIT: the issue might well have arisen because of me having used a .sfc (J) ROM version of the game.
