Yeah.. Sounds like a Virtual Console dissapointment to me. Only being able to pull 60 games or so from a library from multiple systems of THOUSANDS is pretty sad.
I'm dissapointed, but not surprised. I guess I'll stick to my ROMS.

Seems like the Wii might not be region free after all.

There could be 7 to 9 million Wiis built by the end of the year. I don't see a shortage happening anytime soon.

I hope so. I would commend Nintendo on no shortage on launch. i honestly believe companies create shortages on launch ON PURPOSE.
Sony and MS are guilty as charged there. I expect to see a shortage of PS3's just like the PS2's. Shortage creates demand and artificial hype.
C'mon.. If you're a company and you have a clue of how the vide game industry works, and you decide to release a console GLOBALLY on the same day... you should KNOW that's going to require ALOT of units. You get -5 respect points for me going ahead with that knowingly only having a small handful of units that will sell out the first day and give everybody else the shaft. And in turn cause price gouging on ebay, media frenzies, and artifical demand and hype.

Looks like Nintendo wanted the price for the Wii to be $200, but retailers pressured them. Also, CNN will provide the news on the news channel.

F'in greedy retailers..
'Wah.. Nintendo, you can't sell Wii for that cheap, not enough money for us'
Someone at Nintendo should have punched those people in the face.

IIRC, consoles usually have a minimum retailer markup, if any, at launch. The typical retail break-even point on most items is a 25-30% markup. I can't say I'm happy about the $250 price point, of which $50 is probably retailer markup, but it sure as hell beats $599 and I can't say I blame reatilers for not wanting a major product launch to cost them millions.

especially if there is no risk of running out of stock - you ain't making money until it leaves the shelf.AntoineWG wrote:IIRC, consoles usually have a minimum retailer markup, if any, at launch. Does [Kevin] Smith masturbate with steel wool too?
- Yes, but don’t change the subject.

Just to put it in perspective, the retailer markup is only $12.50. Nintendo is selling the consoles to the retailers for about $237.50. Hence, it's not really all retailer markup bloating the price up from $200; 37 dollars of it is Nintendo wanting more money for it, which means the blame for the increased price is shared. Unless of course it really costs about 30+ dollars to ship each individual unit, but...AntoineWG wrote:IIRC, consoles usually have a minimum retailer markup, if any, at launch. Well I don't care too much about nintendo these days. I only saw two games which were slighly fun for me on the gamecube while the rest sucked. mario kart and smash bros melee.
But sony seems to be sucking hard so maybe it's not so bad if nintendo makes a comeback. But if they don't and the Wii bombs, I just hope I see some nerdy game news headline somewhere saying "Wiitarded". I'll have a chuckle at that.

Maybe it's just me, but I have seen some videos of "REAL PEOPLE" playing games on the Wii.. And Somehow I think it's kind of tiresome, like, MOVING your whole arm to do a sword swing in Zelda..
I don't really want to get "tired" playing games.

Well, it's good exercise I guess.
Are you sure their arm movements weren't intentionally exaggerated?

Watch the "sword movies". Perhaps they are exaggerated, but I can't imagine playing that game lied down.. In the lazy position I play videogames.

Hahaha you poor bastard. Actually, I consdered the Wal-mart pre-order deal, until I saw they were forcing me to buy four games, and I didn't feel like dipping into my savings account.
PS. Thanks whoever decided that deleting the threadshitting and leaving the topic open was better than just closing the topic. I could have done the same myself, but, eh, lazy.
