"Just play" Super Metroid to get 100% items and you -need- the spark, really.
My favourite upgrade is still that 2-room spark setup in maridia to grab that missile pack.
Well, with some TAS tricks it becomes a 1-room setup, heh. Still awesome.
The GBA metroids have learnt that lesson and have loads of multi-rooms spark setups (especially since they added the spark cancel). Seeing the secret message in Fusion heavily relies on this trick.

This must break some record somewhere. Congrats, I guess.
Although that name completely sucks.
As far as the name goes, there's actually a reason.
Samus' shinespark move is almost certainly based on the attack of the same name and effect in the (positively ancient) anime Getter Robo G.

I just saw this topic, man I cannot BELEIVE it. congrats man. how the F*** can you play the entire game without shinespark? it's like you get the running boots and you're cooking it along and you fall into that pit and there is no way to get out of it but to learn how to shinespark from that bird.
It shows it in the intro movie too if you don't press start.
This brings back memories of zipping around by samus' gunship when I was 7 years old. Dang I must have played that game like 3 times in a row the first time. I was borrowing it from my brother's friend and I kept going back and borrowing it again. I remember he had this impossibly fast time and I was constantly trying to beat it.
Seriously, what kind of asshole makes an old-school 2D emulator that requires a Core 2 to get full speed? >:(
You can curse the game designers, poke reset, load your save up, and be VERY careful about where you run.
