Yeah. Though an alpha channel might be good for bitmaps, but not for display devices. There's nothing behind it to look through...Cyrus wrote:But I assume most 32bit monitors use 24bit + 8bits for the alpha channel (which is used for transparencies, right?), since 2^32 colours is just pointless.

Even PVA Panel TFTs suffer from this?funkyass wrote:unless you are willing to spend big bucks on a LED backlight, then you have to live with it, all LCD monitors inside your price range suffer from thisST Dragon wrote: The quality of black is terrible, looks more like grey or blue. Also, when the screen was all black I noticed some very irritating backlight bleeding all around the edges of the screen, as if there were extra spot lights around the frame of the LCD.
get a syncmaster 940, its a good monitor.
The EIZO 1931 review is quite good, nice dark black & image quality.

Until I see 120Hz refresh rates,at least 1080p resolution,LED backlights and less dead pixels I'm not thinking of buying an LCD.
CRTs can still do much better: 1536p resolution, better contrast and colors,no lag,no dead pixels.
(OK,there's the huge Apple Cinema HD display, but its price is far from affordable)

Dead pixels and lag are past issues of LCD. Seriously, go look for some GOOD ones.kick wrote:Until I see 120Hz refresh rates,at least 1080p resolution,LED backlights and less dead pixels I'm not thinking of buying an LCD.

I know LCD refresh rate doesn't matter in general usage, but those new 120Hz Samsung displays do have a noticeable difference.
Also, this is important for emulators such as bsnes where PAL games have to be outputted at 100Hz to get accurate video emulation. Because no PC monitor supports 50Hz,the only way to get correct video emulation is to use 100Hz,so you need an LCD which supports 100Hz or better refresh rates.
