Or perhaps I have different tastes. That could be it too.alyxx wrote:You haven't heard much C64 music then. I love the C64 sound.
CRAZY, I know!
Yes, it kinda DOES have to change to sound different. And I want a different flavour because I like different flavours. The music doesn't have to change just because it has different sounds.

Most remixes rape the original author intent.
Never been a big fan of non-author-made remixes.

Conquest of the Crystal Palace.... isn't that the Dragonball game?
If you don't see that as a contradiction...
It's like saying "Man, this is the best guitar solo ever! I wish there was an orchestral version!"
I'm just questioning that you would call it one of the best-sounding games of the era, then immediately turn around and wish it was different.alyxx wrote:I meant that the melodies and riffs remain the same but with a different sound, sorry I didn't make myself clear.
I am always open for re-interpretation and remixing. Why are you so much against that?

Well, I am the kind of person who would say that sort of thing. It might be a contradiction to you but it makes perfect sense to me. I am a musician myself and I love all kinds of music. I've heard a techno/futurepop version of Metallica's Fade To Black and it kicked ass despite not having any guitars in it.Gil_Hamilton wrote:Conquest of the Crystal Palace.... isn't that the Dragonball game?

To be fair he wishes for more versions of the tunes, not really that they were different. Which I can understand considering how for example I love the DK Country soundtrack, and still find parts of it to be much better in DK Land.Gil_Hamilton wrote:I'm just questioning that you would call it one of the best-sounding games of the era, then immediately turn around and wish it was different.
C64 conversions/interpretations of game soundtracks are usually very interesting I think. I would love to hear what someone like Jeroen Tel would have done with Mega Man II.
Nothing wrong with more versions of something good, is there?

Except they mostly suck.Johan_H wrote:Nothing wrong with more versions of something good, is there?
And turning something good into something bad is pretty wrong by many standards.

I have heard many covers that surpass the original in many aspects, and many remixes I've heard I prefer over the original version.grinvader wrote:Except they mostly suck.Johan_H wrote:Nothing wrong with more versions of something good, is there?

So I'll have to disagree that they mostly suck and I love to hear more versions of a theme. Especially the Megaman II music, it can be done in so many styles and variations that there is always room for another remix.

But you're asking what would be wrong with making bullshit out of the originals, and that's the answer.

Why don't you judge each remix or cover by itself rather than having so much prejudice against remixes?grinvader wrote:Exactly.Johan_H wrote:Ignore if you don't like? It's not like the originals are going anywhere.grinvader wrote:Except they mostly suck.

That's a common trend around these premises. Nothing to worry about.alyxx wrote:Well, I feel we are constantly getting off topic here...
