Who can not do a "customized" update via Microsoft

Post by franpa »

Hello we can not successfully (or very rarely) do a Customized Microsoft Update thus preventing us from the optional updates and microsoft hardware WHQL updates.

Is anyone else affected by this? it started about 2 days ago (afaik).

it moves to the next page with the progress bar but the bar does not animate and the process relevant to it does not consume any cpu usage nor is there any HDD activity.

have you changed anything lately? I remember disabling the 'messenger' service on xp screws up windows update, it's not msn messenger, it's some windows function. try deleting all the plugins and shit from IE, including the windows update one and have it reinstall it.

I kinda forgot i can't update that way without activating windows first, so even if it did work, i would be taken to a page saying to activate windows >.>

perhaps it is just failing to render that page?

try clearing up the cache?

also phonymike, if you have any services related to windows update turned off, I'm sure windows update would've let you know and DENIED your access until you turn them back on (you need the automatic updates service, BITS service, and IIRC the event log enabled.)
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

I believe Microsoft are updating it to not say "the latest security updates are only for service pack 2" because it works now (no changes made) and that box is removed.

You can install hardware updates without activation o_O
