Help with slow down of sound in ZSNES and frame rate

Post by HonoredShadow »

Im confused. I just cant get my head round this. Basically all i want is to have no tearing on screen but...

Ok here goes. On SNES9x (latest) if i click double buffer the fps indicator goes down from 60/60 on an NTSC game to 50/60 fps but the sound/music is playing at the SAME speed no matter what.

On ZSNES (latest) if i click triple buffer then the frame rate does the same. The fps indicator goes from 60/60 to 50/60 BUT the sound is slower and i think maybe the gameplay is to.

I guess this does not affect PAL games... Why is this happening? Is this the way it happened on a real SNES? Were games slower on PAL?

Also i get screen tearing on both emu's if i dont have double/triple buffer on but ZSNES sound slows but not SNES9x. Its not that my PC is not powerfull enough. The program is being limited for some reason when i turn it on. Why?

How come i can have 60/60fps in NTSC games, 50/50fps in PAL games and double/triple buffer on to stop tearing to?

See! I dont get it lol. Any ideas would be very greatfull. If it is MENT to slow down to 50fps then fair enough. I just cant understand why it sounds slower in one emu and not another.

Thanks all! :)

PAL games run at 50fps while NTSC games run at 60fps.

Start Zsnes with the -6 switch so it forces your monitor to 60Hz refresh. Enable Automatic Frameskip and the Manual Frmeskip setting at 9. enable VSync and/or Triple Buffering.

Do not play PAL games. :D

Yep.

You can also try it without the -6 switch, eg. just Triple Buffering in 640x480 DR fullscreen. It should work all out nicely if your monitor runs at 120 Hz in this resolution.

Well, 120Hz/100Hz is KitchenSync only, and not so widely supported by monitors.

Thanks. Also what are the best sound options to use for best quality? I see options like 8poinr interpolation etc... My PC is good enough for best. What would that be?

Thanks all for your help.

No, I don't mean KitchenSync. 120 Hz just gives ZSNES more time to sync the game to the monitor. Just to be sure if your PC isn't the fastest one.

Gaussian is what the real SNES used, so I'm using that.

Also you mat wany to set the sampling rate to 48kHz (or whatever the highest setting is) by clicking on it in the sound config.
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?

No, running at 120hz means your monitor doesn't flicker like hell giving you a headache, while being an even multiple of 60 hz so the game doesn't stutter.

Then it's all good. We can drop the KitchenSync debate.

WTF. The SNES uses a 32000-Hz sampling rate, dude. Depending on your audio card, asking for 48000 will only make you blow in the wind.

What I meant by my mini rant was that I was annoyed that everyone keeps on woth this fucking kitten joke, especially AoL. It's retarded.

Why the fruity site (CR) did you use a cool smiley?
I'm just kidding, you're a wonderful person. :D

Holy Jesus, you actually took that seriously. Firstly:

I was taking the piss out of you. That is a line from Futurama, said by Flexo. He would really mock the shit out of someone, and then say "I'm just kidding, you're a wonderful person. Also, you pissed me off by using that "cool" smiley. Kind of arrogant.
Secondly:
In my This sucks thread, Kieran wrote:You are a great man, man.

Once again, I was mocking you, in particular your use of the word "man". I thought you would pick up on this, seeing as I used the word twice. You were basically saying in that thread" I am a great a kind human being".

So to sum up... I do not think that I have ever said a kind word of you.
