Playback issues

Hi, after A LOT of trial and error I have finally figured out what to download and what to do in order to dump movies. I have also downloaded mplayer and it works fine when playing the movies.

The trouble comes when I try to play the AVIs on Windows Media Player. It only plays the sound but no video. Also, when I try to import the videos to Windows Movie Maker it always says:

"The file C:\zsnesw151\merged.avi cannot be imported because the codec required to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again."

Do I need codecs and where can I get them? Is it even possible to import the dumped movies to the movie maker? I know Windows Movie Maker is not the best editing software, but I am new to all of this and want to learn the basics

It depends a lot on the codec you are dumping the movie for to have it play back in Windows Media Player.

Well, I really just want to know how to import it to Windows movie maker so that I can create videos to upload.
