the 16bpp in 32bpp problem might be it, but if glgears is running slow, then your drivers arent set up correctly. i remember this from trying to set nvidia drivers up in mandrake. go to #nvidia on irc.freenode.net (IRC), and ask them about it. im sure they will be able to help. for me, i dont think...

Video Resolution...
I have Zsnes installed on my Debian GNU/Linux sarge.
I can't use resolution bigger than 640x480 'cause it slows too much... But there's no reason on my pentium 2.4ghz with 256mbram and 64mb video card.
