This needs to be posted/moved to the Netplay forums.

Make sure that both sides are using the same ZSNES version (1.42 is the latest official) and both sides are not using a firewall (hopefully) and you both most likely will need to use TCP instead of UDP.

When I said firewall, I meant router.

Yes; i know. Both our firewalls are down.

P.S If you didn't notice, the problem here isn't connectivity to the other side, its the fact that our KI ROMs wont load.

If that's the case, one of you needs to acquire the other's version of the ROM (hopefully the ROM you will be using is a good copy).

Successful two-player games requires two things:

1) Both ROMs are the same: There is a CRC check to determine if the ROM both users are using. If they do not match, the game will not run.

2) Both ROM names must be the same - ZSNES cannot guess which game both of you are referring to. For instance, it could be KI.SMC for one guy's comp, and the other is Killer Instinct.SMC. ZSNES uses the file name of the guy that loads the game. If that name is not the same on the other player's comp, the game will fail to load.

Note: Make sure that both games have been loaded previously so ZSNES can properly set the directory the ROMs are being loaded from.. If you want to set the directory for ROMs to load directly, use a text editor (like Notepad) and open the zsnesw.cfg file and edit the Game Directory path.

I don't believe there's an error message for it (hopefully there is one).

When ZSNES loads the ROM, it will tell you an 8 digit HEX number. If yours and opponent's ROMs do not match, then both of you need to use NSRT to fix the problem.

Ah... I'm lucky I didn't have to deal with someone that has no clue at all (the ones that say "it doesn't work" and leave it at that)

Apparently ZSNES does output a message "ROM data mismatch" or "Checksum mismatch" when the CRCs don't match. If it happens to be a ROM data mismatch, then one of you need to get the same version of the ROM. Killer Instant has 4 different ROM varients... one beta, one for those in Europe (PAL version), and two different US versions (1.0 and 1.1).

The netplay doc needs improving in ZSNES...
