Long story about my general sound problem

Post by anema »

When i play for first time in the emulator zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator) (like 4 years ago) i played Chrono Trigger in my PC, the game works fine but the real thing is that the sound was EXACTLY or at least VERY CLOSE to the real game (i know that because i once had the game), well anyway after finish the game i know about another jewel call Seiken Densetsu III, i play that game and the sound play exactly has the original game (well the spells, slashes, wolf growls, etc all sound VERY GOOD), well the thing is that after my PC got a very annoying virus i send my PC to reboot (erase ALL and upgrade some things), i had Windows Millenium back then, after i get my PC back i had Windows XP and when i played the games the sound was TOTALLY diferent, back then i dont know much about computers so i dont know what changes were made apart from the Windows, well the thing is that i have being check this forums and i see a lot of members with a problem like me, some said that is the "square rape" but the problem is that not only the Square games sound was diferent (bad) but also ALL the games i play, so i been thinking, the actual zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator) cant emulate the sound 100% exact like the original games? I dont remember what version of zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator) i have back then, i tried the zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator) 1.1337 and yes, this version emulate quit good the sound of ALL my roms but still when i played for first time the sound was more accurate, so can someone will tell me if your roms (not square roms) sound exactly like the original and what version of the zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator) are you using?
Sorry for the long "story" is just i wanna say all to make sure all understand, and BTW im not english native so sorry for any understanding.

1. Your English is pretty good and understandable.
2. Your writing isn't that great. Using paragraphs and multiple sentences and capitalization would really help.
3. You are misspelling the name of the emulator. It's ZSNES, not zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator).
4. About your question: No, ZSNES does not perfectly emulate the sound of a SNES. It has never done this. The better perceived quality sound you hear in older versions of ZSNES is not related to emulation accuracy. In addition, the Windows port of ZSNES has some issues with its sound output (unrelated to sound emulation) that makes it not as good. The sound output of the SDL port of ZSNES is much "better." The developers of ZSNES are aware of the inaccuracies of ZSNES' sound emulation. This issue is being worked on. But they cannot improve the sound emulation of ZSNES just from reports from users about how they "remember" the sound being in Chrono Trigger. Perceived accuracy of sound is very different from actual accuracy of sound.

My suggestion is that you try to find the old versions of ZSNES that sound good to you and use those. Other than that, you just have to wait until ZSNES has better sound emulation / output.

Um no.

ZSNES DOS has much better sound.
Current SDL output sucks like you can't imagine. However we are working on fixing it, and our current results are better than Windows, but it's not officially going into SDL port until we work out some issues with it.
May 9 2007 - NSRT 3.4, now with lots of hashing and even more accurate information! Go download it.

I use the SDL port and I get a LOT of static with all my games' sound. Is this normal? I keep wondering whether its just an ongoing sound problem with the SDL port or it's something on my end, but I've reformatted my hard drive 3 times over the course of the last couple months for various reasons, and each time I reinstall ZSNES I still have the static. It still very well could be something on my end, but I've been wondering about this for a while...

Oh, sorry. I was referring to the new sound code that Pagefault is working on. I forgot it wasn't in CVS yet.

To Jipsi: i spelled Zsnes right, i never put zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator). (I just want to clarifiy this)
To developers: The Dos version of Zsnes with better sound is the actual version or can be all the previous versions?
The sound of the Zsnes Dos sound like the version 1.1337 of like the current?

It's an automatic board filter. You might want to edit that original post to correct it then.
