i am pretty new to the Hqxx filters, and in this latest WIP i decided to mess with the newer filters a bit, straying from kreed's excellent filters. i tried a few different roms on the Hq4x filter and it seemed unbearably taxing. one rom in particular was zelda III.. heres the rom info
---------------------Internal ROM Info----------------------
File: Legend of Zelda, The (U).smc
Name: THE LEGEND OF ZELDA Company: Nintendo
Header: SWC Bank: LoROM
Interleaved: No SRAM: 64 Kb
Type: Normal + Batt ROM: 8 Mb
Country: USA Video: NTSC
ROM Speed: 200ns (SlowROM) Version: 1.0
Checksum: Good 0xAF0D CRC32: 777AAC2F
--------------------------Database--------------------------
Name: Legend of Zelda, The - A Link to the Past
Country: USA Version: 1.0
Port 1: Gamepad Port 2: Gamepad
I tried it on both machines, my server ran at an average of 26/60 fps over 10 minutes its specs are as follows.
AMD athlon 1800+ 1.5GHz on ECS KT333 mobo
512M pc2100 kingston gold
Nvidia GeForce4 4400Ti 128 AGP@ 8x (1280x1024 32bpp) det 52.16
SB audigy platinum
winXP pro sp2
and on my main it went an average of 42/60 over 10 minutes..
AMD Athlon 2800+ barton 2.083GHz 512k L2 on Soyo KT400a
512 MB corsair XMS CMX-3200C2LL @333MHz 2-3-3-6 1T
ATi Radeon 9700 Pro 128 @ AGP 8x Catalyst 4.7 (1600x1200 32bpp)
SB audigy2
winXP pro sp2
both machines with Dx9.0c
Zsnes using 1024x768 DS fullscreen mode on both machines...
with any of the other filters it ran great!
what recommendations would you make for machine specs to run this filter well? maybe tack that info somewhere easy to see, like the readme, so people have an idea if it would work for them or not. i know Hq2x runs fine for me, even with forced 4x FSAA, so it makes me wonder if its a code optimisation issue?
Zsnes WIP 9/07 Hq4x filter question..

I *really* don't know what happens.
Since MaxSt's optimized his code with MMX instructions, I've got 1024*768 DS FULL with hq3x running at 60/60 (or 50/50) flawlessly.
And I have a P4 1.8GHz, 448MB of ram an old GeForce4 MX 440 (with freaking old drivers - that work perfectly, mind you-) and directX 8.0b.
Maybe it's because I use Win98SE.
But wait Agozer uses it too.

<jmr> bsnes has the most accurate wiki page but it takes forever to load (or something)
Actually, I don't. Anymore. XP now.grinvader wrote:But wait Agozer uses it too.
Could it be because of System Restore (I need to check if I disabled it or was I just dreaming.)
I use ZSNES with the -6 switch, and when I try to use HQxx, the fps keeps steady at first... but as the screen scrolls, the fps drops to 42, etc. etc.
While trying to optimize his filters, MaxST wrote a little program to test your memory transfer speeds. *Almost* independent of processor speeds and video cards, these rates were all over the map. Unfortunately, all that data has been lost to the void.
I do seem to recall that the highest speed AGP memory went to one of the top-of-the-line rigs, but the lowest speed was NOT one of the worse rigs.
