zsnes ports?

Post by juanito »

hi i am new to the board. i know there is a port of zsnes for xbox, i think it is amazing. but i don't know much about how it works. i got a gp2x and there is a couple snes9x ports but i was wondering why there weren't any ports of zsnes. the snes9x ports are very good right now. it uses two arm processors. is zsnes to x86 based to port and run smoothly? because they guys on the gp2x site said it can't be done, but i thought it better to ask guys that hang out on the zsnes forums because you guys might be able to give me a better answer. thanks for you responses.

You don't appear to have read the forum rules at the top of this forum, which it says all new users should read! One of the rules is:
* Do not request ports of ZSNES to other consoles or systems. ZSNES is not very portable right now.

This is because ZSNES is mostly written in x86 assembly, and is therefore not portable to other processor architectures. The developers are gradually changing ZSNES to C, I believe, but I don't think you should be holding your breath in anticipation. Continue using Snes9x for now.

i wasn't requesting a port, i was asking if it was viable, or even possible. i don't see anywhere were i requested a port.

My bad, we've gotten so many requests for ports that when you wondered why there weren't any, I had a knee-jerk response. Anyways, now you know why ZSNES isn't currently portable.

I'm not sure if you were looking at ANY of the stickies at the top of this forum..

http://board.zsnes.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=6933

There is a port already done... we're not the guys you need to look to.. look for that support from the zsnexbox team.

This thread should be locked.

Deathlike2, Xbox has the same processor architecture as PCs. That's why ZSNES can be run on the Xbox. GP2X is different, as it uses ARM processors. The ZSNES source would need major reworking to make it run on different processor architectures, probably much more substantial than what the zsnesxbox guys did.

If you're talking about the Xbox360.. it is possible. Remember that the Xbox360 needed a software update to work with Xbox games (like Macs are currently using with the X86 hardware)... but there's no real guarentee that it will get done. Someone will figure it out.. right now the research would really need to be done.

Comparing the Xbox360 to a GP2x? You have got to be kidding me.

While you're at it, I want to run Project64 on my GBA SP. Anything is possible, at zombo com, anything at all. The only limit is yourself.
