have save states spread out each in its own directory?
how do I set things so the default save state directory of the current game being played will look for its save states in the same directory as where the ROM is?
I'm using v1.42, but also tried other versions as well. For example, originally, I had a Chrono Trigger directory. I load that game.. ROM in that directory and all save states get saved to and loaded from there. I could load another game like SMW from the SMW directory and all save states would be loaded and saved at that SMW directory.
I did something recently in the options or config so that the path field only remembers one value. E.g. C:\<blah blah blah>\SNES\Chrono Trigger. Playing Chrono Trigger, its save states get loaded fine, but now, other games' save states don't load unless I explicitly go into Config-->Paths and hand type the correct directory to the game I'm currently playing to tell ZSNES to look there instead.
Is there some special key characters I can use when opening up Config-->Paths to specify save states to be searched in the current directory as the ROM like a '~' or '!'? I tried deleting the save state path so the field is blank, click Misc-->Save Cfg, close ZSNES, only to have the path be restored again. I checked to see the .dat and .cfg files are NOT read only. What else could I be missing?

Eh, seems to work fine for me. As long as the path at the SaveDirectory line in zsnesw.cfg is left empty, save states, save ram and everything else gets saved to and loaded from each ROM's respective directory, regardless of what the save path in Zsnes itself says.

Really? I could have sworn I couldn't get it to work. Oh well, it's a good thing if it does work.blackmyst wrote:Eh, seems to work fine for me. That's my problem. Despite checking agasint read only settings for the files, every time i set the save state path to blank, it's getting reset to whatever game i last played on exitblackmyst wrote:Eh, seems to work fine for me. That seemed to work. Thanks for being specific. Altho it's still the same issue cropping up. The Paths (displayed in ZSNES) field has some random ROM directory (not even the last game i played), but now, the first game comes up and lets me use the save states. I have to open the CFG file bef I start up and delete the path of SS to use states of another game.blackmyst wrote:Note I mentioned it has to be blank in the .cfg file. Not Zsnes itself, clearing that seems to have no effect.
If there are other things that may work (through zsnes (btw i'm too stupid to learn the name of the emulator) or windows) that are worth a shot, let me know. At the very least, I have an extra effort, but simple way to play any game with states.
Well, my Zsnes does exactly what you want it to do.
Try clearing the savedirectory line in the config file, then set the savepath in Zsnes itself to the directory the Zsnes executable is located in. Then restart the program just to be sure. That's how it is for me (and that's what the savepath in Zsnes itself seems to default back to when I clear it there).
If all else fails you could always try clearing the save directory line in the config file, then setting the config file to read-only. Except then you'd have to change it back each time you'd want to edit any other options, but yeah.

Make sure it's not read-only. Check twice.dolfan32323 wrote:No everything I have is saved in a folder on my desktop.Joe Camacho wrote:Are you running the emulator and roms from a cd?dolfan32323 wrote:For some reason I can't save anything
