This seems late.. but you need to report the NSRT output.

what

as long as we got a CRC32 of the ROM, he's fine
<Nach> so why don't the two of you get your own room and leave us alone with this stupidity of yours?
NSRT here.

The rom is good. The sound doesn't crack over here, so it's your sound card.
whicker: franpa is grammatically correct, and he still gets ripped on?
sweener2001: Grammatically correct this one time? sure. every other time? no. does that give him a right? not really.

It probably is the sound card.. it's one of those Creative-Ensoniq cards that royally suck because I believe most of the rendering is done in software...

As a user of that very card (PCI creative ensoniq 1371), I resent that.
Never had any trouble in anything, from legacy DOS stuff (not sierra, though - can't ask everything) to usual directsound/sdl apps.

I'm just using the alsa drivers for it on linux, and I don't even remember the last time I updated my w98 drivers.

Well, it royally sucked for ZSNES in pure-DOS (no sound) and FF7 (no MIDI whatsoever). This is also from a user of this very card. However it worked just fine functionally for everything else though. This unfortunately was the reason why I had to buy a SB Live Value...

As I pointed out, zsnes DOS never gave me issues. Neither did zsnes WIN. And I didn't even change drivers between the 2.
So I can only blame your own setup, sorry.

If you're referring to the engine sound during gameplay, yes it does slightly crackle in zsnes which does not occur on a real snes. It's another example of spc rape.
