The lowest resolution available to zsnes is the (I think) native snes resolution of 256x224. Would it be possible (or is there a reason why it was never included) to enable the stretch attribute to this video mode so it will run in proper full screen? I know that a lot of people out there don't like that kind of resolution but when you're like me running a 266, you want it to run fast and big! P

lus I want it to work on tvout and when I do with my card, it chops the edge off in the 512x448 resolution and it is smaller than the full screen on the lower resolution :(.

Is there any way I could easily customise this or would it have to be released in another build if it were to ever be implemented?

Are you using 256*224 for speed? I think that the Windows port runs faster in 640*480. What is your video card?

What about 1400x1050 modes for people with laptops that use 1400x1050 as their native resolution? If I understand correctly about DirectDraw, the restricted video-mode menu is a holdover from the DOS days, and it shouldn't be too hard to add a few modes (but not to restructure the menu - I've heard all about how doing GUIs in ASM is extremely hard).

What the native resolution exactly is, is hard to tell.

The TV screen has no horizontal resolution (because of the analog video signal), and NTSC's vertical resolution is 524+(2*0.5) lines. The SNES can change the dot color 256 times per line. AFAIK it's unknown how the H-512 mode is done - it certainly uses the color addition/subtraction features of the SNES.

The screen is scanned two times, one time for the even-numbered lines and one time for the odd-numbered lines. Normally, the SNES draws the same lines in both passes so the vertical resolution seems to be 224. Some game change their graphics between passes, eg. Metroid 3. There's also the interlacing mode which uses all lines, so the vertical resolution is doubled.

The HQ3X filter nicely makes things fullscreen without distorting things. Of course, if you can't use the filter due to not having a good enough computer, I suggest using fullscreen mode with 640x480 resolution.

With laptops in mind, HP/Compaq's widescreen displays use:
1280x800
1680x1050
1920x1200

My Compaq laptop displays had 1400x1050 resolution. They called it XGA or SXGA, I don't remember which. These were not the 16:9 wide aspect ratio screens that are now being used.
