Hey I'm running Windows XP and version 1.42 of ZSNES, and I have a bit of a delimma.
As many of you know, rom files sometimes come with different extentions (most common being .smc). I have a SNES rom with a .fig extention and cannot figure out how to change it so that ZSNES sees the rom. I used to fix this problem simply by telling Windows to associate certain file types with ZSNES...
Here's where my main issue comes in, and it might be more of a window's issue than a ZSNES issue, but I'm not sure.
If I browse for zsnesw when choosing a program to associate with a file type, then select sznesw it doesn't show up in the list of selectable programs, nor does the file type become associated with it. Now I've done this previously when I had ZSNES on my computer and it worked fine.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Alternatively I could probably change the extention of the .fig file into .smc and run it with ZSNES that way, but I can't seem to figure out how to do that (as if I rename it to game.smc, it turns into game.smc.fig).
Anyone got any ideas, or suggestions?

By default, ZSNES is not supposed to be selectable in the list of files to associate a program with.
With that said, you probably want to find it by selecting "Other" and find ZSNES.
However, this method is not safe (though, it is probably safer in the latest WIP).
As for your extension renaming problem, this is probably because you did not allow Windows to show the extension so you could directly rename the extension used.

Re: Hmmm?
It is not entirely safe to load ZSNES by associating the extension to ZSNES. There are internal path issues in the older versions of ZSNES that can cause unexpected behavior.Ashiel wrote:What do you mean it's not safe?
If you have trouble using the Windows file browser... then you need to learn. The ZSNES file browser is really no different. If you are not very good at this, put the roms in the same folder ZSNES in, because by default, ZSNES looks in its current directory for them.I'm having trouble selecting it by browsing for it...

I wish people would quit making shit up. I've used every zsnes version ever made and have always had snes roms associated with it. I never use the file browser, what a waste of time. in the old days I had to use a bat file to change to the zsnes dir, run the rom through smc.com for info (still beats nsrt) and they always ran fine (except games with an ' in the filename.)
go ahead, try it. double click an smc file, click "select program" if you didn't know what it did, and choose zsnes. boom, all done. don't worry about it not being safe, it's not like it's gonna give you the gay or somthin (doesn't matter cause you already gots it.)

Shit I made up.
It's not made up. Shit breaks. Maybe not for you for some reason, but for just about everybody else it happens. Or hopefully "happened", thanks to the devs rewriting the path handling.
nor have I ever seen a post (in all my wasted years of trolling these forums) about people having a problem doing so.
like I said, try it, you guys are wrong (and pry gay for each other,) and I'm right as always.
