The Dreamcast is now 7 years old
Yup, today is 9/9/06. I had some good memories of the Dreamcast years ago. Too bad it got killed.
I remember buying one after finding out it can play games burned directly to cd-r. got one for $99. it was really cool. I loved my dreamcast.

Marvel vs Capcom 2 - that was our game of choice. I actually spent a few days putting a custom soundtrack into it, since the worst part of the game was the music (Wanna Take you for a RIIIIIIIDE?!) I've been meaning to Cargo Bay that shit - once I get net at my place I'll probably do it.
Grandia II, Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Bomberman Online, Chu Chu Rocket, the 2K series... I loved that fucking system.

7 years? wow- I still have my Dreamcast lurking around somewhere...
As for the DC not being 'capable' enough, thats just b*ll*ks!! Technically it
has similar/better specs than the PS2, which is obviously still going strong
today. Its all down to popularity, Sega just couldnt match.
Shenmue I and II on the DC are still a favourite, a very different experience
still to be matched on any system
Although not all in house Sega games...
Chu Chu Rocket (is this out on gba?), Crazy Taxi, Ecco, Dead Or Alive, F355
Challenge Passione Rossa, House Of The Dead, Metropolis St Racer,
Phantasy Star Online, Power Stone 1, Trickstyle, Virtua Fighter 3TB and
Virtua Tennis were all great titles for the system. Unfortunately the same
couldnt be said for Sonic, his leap into 3d, although not the first time, just
didnt work as well as any of the Mario games. Lets hope his new outing on
the Wii is a step forward.

the ps2's specs blew the dreamcast out of the water. The DC could never push as many polygons as the ps2.
that was the whole reason it was killed. sony wowed everyone with their specs.
and don't censor yourself. makes it harder to read.

I think the popularity of the ps1 may have been a more likely reason as to
why the ps2 won over the dc in the long run! The ps2 might have been able
to push far more polygons in comparison to the dc, but that left hardly any
room for texturing. The dc being able to display only what was needed to be
shown on screen at once and compress textures -which the ps2 couldnt do-
meant that comparitively the dc was able to display far better looking
textured environments. Shenmue still looks far better than many games on
the ps2

'Japs', as you say, call it ソウルキャリバー, "sourukyaribaa" if you insist on stupid uninterpretated romanji.

textures on shenmue suck, dude. they are not that fantastic. i'll use FFX as an example. an early ps2 release, it was graphically superior to anything the DC could ever put out. textures, polygons, shading, everything. the ps2 was vastly superior hardware-wise, and that's why nobody bought a dc after the ps2 was announced. they were waiting for the bettter machine.stewie128 wrote:I think the popularity of the ps1 may have been a more likely reason as to

We're talking about a released in 1999 vs a 2001 released systems, you idiot. Off corse that PS2 is better than DC, but the DC was released in a year that the best graphic system was the N64, that means it was the best before all new game systems (CGN, PS2, XBOX, etc...)sweener2001 wrote:textures on shenmue suck, dude. they are not that fantastic. i'll use FFX as an example. an early ps2 release, it was graphically superior to anything the DC could ever put out. textures, polygons, shading, everything. the ps2 was vastly superior hardware-wise, and that's why nobody bought a dc after the ps2 was announced. they were waiting for the bettter machine.stewie128 wrote:I think the popularity of the ps1 may have been a more likely reason as to

the dreamcast wasn't realeased to compete with the 64. it was released as next-gen. which puts it in direct competition with the ps2. why do you think sony made their spec announcements so early? so sega wouldn't have an established base by the time their machine was ready.
it's the same thing right now. how many people are waiting for the ps3 because it's the stronger machine? what's the point of releasing specs more than a year ahead of time? to try and diminish the 360's user base.
and if you're going to call me any kind of name, make sure you spell right, m'kay? "Off corse?" who looks stupid when you can't type properly? i'll give you a hint: you.

the only difference here it's that the price influences most.sweener2001 wrote:the dreamcast wasn't realeased to compete with the 64. it was released as next-gen. which puts it in direct competition with the ps2. why do you think sony made their spec announcements so early? so sega wouldn't have an established base by the time their machine was ready.

Yeah, but the Saturn was the one that competed with the N64, sort of, it competed more with the Playstation, not the Dreamcast, like our friend here did.sweener2001 wrote:what about the jaguar?
or any other system that was dead as soon as it left the gates?
including the saturn would only help my argument out, but it didn't really make an impact worth mentioning. the dreamcast did.
I was talking about how HE didn't remember the Saturn.

Saturn came before the Dreamcast Gothicall. Revisionist history is not acceptable here. The Dreamcast was far better than its predecessor.. but Sega was not a great hardware company.. it was a better software company.
Though, Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast was very impressive (and I liked Soul Calibur 2 that was released for the PS2 later, but that's a different story).
