Well of course, what did you expect. The American public is possibly even more brainwashed by the Playstation brand's thug gangsta image than the Japanese are by Final Fantasy.
It's like that one Sony exec said, they're going to sell the first 5 million or so even if it had no games.

EB and GameStop held off preorders until Sony confirmed how many PS3's they were getting. They wanted to avoid a repeat of the 360 fiasco. If the history of major console launches tells us anything, though, there will be shortages for months while the units reach 4x their retail price at auction and I hope to God that Walmart won't allow people to put them on layaway until Christmas like they did with the PS2.
I still think the Wii60 bundle is a better bet, though. I can get 2 consoles for the price of 1. I'll be pursuing a Wii on launch day. Hopefully I can get off work early (like 11pm) and there isn't a line at Walmart. Blew-Ray doesn't really look any better than DVD yet anyways.
Does anybody else think it's odd that the Japanese release date for the Wii is after the US launch date?

i watched a sample video of blu-ray, and it kicks dvd's butt. hard.
the films that they're releasing weren't filmed in hi-def, so that's why there really isn't a difference.
once you get a film that was made in hi-def, like the new star wars, it will be like night and day.

A lot of films filmed were filmed on film. They are hi-def, the studios are just too lazy to do the work.sweener2001 wrote:i watched a sample video of blu-ray, and it kicks dvd's butt. hard.

IIRC only a handful of comercial movies were shot in digital since the phantom meanace.
Once Paramount releases the remastered Star Trek on disc, I might consider a hi-def player, on crappy-assed standard tv they look mighty good.

- Yes, but don’t change the subject.

Notice I ised the word "yet" in my post. Yes, it is a technically superior format, kinda like DVD was superior to VHS back in the late 90's, but many DVD releases were rips from VHS tapes or laserdisc and looked like ass. That and there's not enough material available on the new formats. The hi-def formats are going through the same transition.sweener2001 wrote:i watched a sample video of blu-ray, and it kicks dvd's butt. hard.

Also, I already own a 360, which was expensive enough. I'm not going to drop $600 on a Blu-Ray player that just happens to play games too. If anything, I'll get a Wii and eventually, assuming it catches on, an HD-DVD drive for the 360.
And I didn't come up with "Blew-Ray". It was in one of the more clever comments on slasdot last week.[/i]

yes, i've seen that, but will demand for the Wii be 4x the demand for the PS3? just because there's a larger number of Wiis than PS3s, doesn't mean there won't be a shortage.snkcube wrote:http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/2006100 ... uction.htmLizking wrote:Lets hope Wii preorders aren't crazy like that.
either way, I'm probably gonna be sitting outside gamecrazy at 6am tomorrow morning, as thats when several stores will start taking pre-orders.
